Help us lower the costs associated with becoming a US Soccer Referee

I hear everyday from refs all around the world of the challenges they face from Players, Coaches and Spectators. Why is our own US Soccer association making it hard on us as well?

As a Grassroots soccer referee for the past 8 years, I have spent thousands of dollars on jerseys, shorts, shoes, whistles, flags, certifications and many other expenses to be able to participate as an official in the sport that I love. While some expenses are necessary year to year, the cost for multi-colored jerseys is completely unnecessary.

We continue to struggle to attract and retain referees and it has negative impact on the quality of soccer across our country. Why should we add to this problem by putting unnecessary strains on our officials? If we want to grow the beautiful game in this country with high quality soccer, we need to immediately reduce all barriers to entry for those who want to start and continue officiating.
